Marvel Studios recently opened up its Burbank doors to reporters to showcase a bunch of upcoming work they have in the pipeline. The media got sneek peaks at Black Panther, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Thor: Ragnarok along with news of other projects such as Avengers 4 and Guardians vol. 3. So, needless to say, a lot to get through.
On hand for comment was Marvel Studio head, Kevin Feige, who discussed a myriad of things including Spidey’s future involvement in the MCU as well as his thoughts on the R -rated superhero film following the success of Deadpool and Logan. He also commented on the big news that Warner Bros / DC is close to signing former MCU alum, Joss Whedon for a Batgirl film. For the level headed producer, he’s cool with it. THR reports:
“He called a couple months ago, which he didn’t have to do and was super cool of him and super nice of him,” said Feige. “And we couldn’t be more supportive. We want to see a Joss Whedon Batgirl film be awesome.”
I choose not to believe that this response is for show. Feige seems like a pretty reasonable individual and when it comes to Whedon I believe he might cut the Avengers director a little slack. Whedon’s films did bring in a truck load of money for the studio and some consider him to be one of the architects of the MCU. Sure, there’s competition between studios. Both are competing within the same niche, but that doesn’t mean the studio heads have to destroy a creative’s career because one jumps ship, especially since Whedon gave so much of his creative ability for Avengers and Age of Ultron.
As Feige said, we want to see a Joss Whedon Batgirl film be awesome!
